5 THINGS THAT ARE NORMAL ABOUT THE BODY

5-THINGS-THAT-ARE-NORMAL-ABOUT-THE-BODY B Brand

In this article, I am going to share with you five things that are normal about the body, contrary to what we have been made to believe. These ‘insecurities’ I will address today are all very much beautiful, and about time that they should be normalized in the society.

Everyone has insecurities—It could be about your body type, or height or smile. Whatever it may be, you need to know that insecurities exist in every one, male or female. Although we all have our insecurities, we can all testify that society has placed more pressure and unrealistic expectations on the female body. Most of us have a picture imprinted in our minds of how the ideal woman should look like, which should not be so. Because ‘Beauty’ comes in many different ways.

Here are 5 things that are normal about the body.
  • It’s normal for the vulva to be darker than every other part of the body.
  • You might have noticed that as you grow, your intimate areas like the vulva, pubic, and perineum become darker than the other parts of your body, especially in people of color.  First of all, this is perfectly normal and nothing to be ashamed of. The darkening of these areas is called hyperpigmentation.

WHY IS MY VULVA AND PUBIC AREA DARKER?

There are several reasons why hyperpigmentation of intimate areas happen, and it's not because of cancers, or diseases or poor hygiene, but because of genetics, aging, hormones, and melanocyte (melanin). You should also take note that using tools like razors for shaving can increase hyperpigmentation in these areas. This is because razors might make minute cuts, which stimulates melanocytes in these areas.

  • It’s normal for one breast to be bigger and more sensitive than the other.
  • There are different types of breast. Asymmetrical breast type is when one breast is noticeably bigger or fuller than the other breast. This is absolutely normal, common in more than half of all women and nothing to be worried about.

  • It’s normal to have stretch marks on the belly, hips, thighs, breast and buttocks.
  • Often, most women with stretch marks are insecure about them. Honestly, there is nothing to be ashamed of. Stretch marks are not a disease or deformity. Some might not disappear altogether. Once again, this is as a result of the normal physiological nature of the skin.

    WHAT CAUSES STRETCH MARKS?

Stretch marks are caused by stretching of the skin. They often occur with rapid weight loss or gain, or excessive use of corticosteroids.  Mostly, they don’t require treatment because they disappear on their own with time.

  • Hip dips are normal
  • Hip dips or hip divots is another normal body type. Hip dips are not as common as the other factors mentioned in this article, you might not have even heard or seen this feature before now, but it exists. Some view hip dips as ‘deformity’ or a ‘mistake’ but that is very wrong.

WHY DO I HAVE HIP DIPS OR HIP DIVOTS?

Hip dips are because of different bone structure, and genetics. As society, we need to accept that ‘different’ does not mean ‘abnormal’.

  • Hair around the anus is normal
  • Most people have hair follicles around their anus. This is very normal. It does not serve any major health benefit, neither does it cause any risk to your health. You can decide to either remove it or keep it —It all depends on what makes you comfortable.
